My Terrific Idea

So, I've been thinking its about time for Rebecca to give up her thumb sucking. Her teeth are starting to look like they are protruding out. And she's getting to be a big girl in so many ways.

I decided to put a bandaid around her thumb. We have some really cool Hello Kitty bandaids. I packaged up her thumb really nice this morning. She was sad at first. Then, she got distracted and seemed ok. Like it didn't bother her.

Well, when my mother-in-law showed up this morning, she put on the biggest waterworks show you have ever seen. She was so sad. She kept wailing "Take it off". I know its going to be hard the first day. But, its going to have to be done sooner or later.

So, the terrific idea? We're doing it on a Tata day for the first day. My Mother-in-law is so much better at this stuff than I am. I have every confidence that my little girl will be returned this afternoon a reformed thumbsucker.

Day 3 - The Floor Saga Continues

You know how those home improvement shows come and in two days completely transform a room into a decorator's dream? Well, that's all crap. Here we are going into day 3 and the floor is still not done. It doesn't have much more to go, but then we still have to move stuff back in, sort through junk and clean. And would you believe my microfiber clothes have disappeared. What in the world would anyone want with a microfiber cloth? I suspect a 20-something boy that lives my house. The same one who took my kitchen sponge to wash his truck and wanted to give it back for me to use on dishes. Not.

I hate for this to come across as a rant. The floor looks beautiful. We just ran out of time.

On to painting, I am not a painter. I'm not careful and meticulous. I'm a slapper on of the paint. So, when my husband suggested that we paint the baseboards white I shuddered. I know my limits. Painting is just not my thing. It doesn't look too bad, if you don't look close.

I can't wait to get home and see the finished project. I will have a slideshow by tommorrow evening.

The Floor

The floor is about a 1/4 done. I expect for it to be finished today. the majority of the day yesterday was spent just unearthing the room from the piles of stuff my sweet packrating husband seemed to collect.

But, you know that with any one project, it somehow morphs into another project. We didn't paint the baseboards when we painted the room 4 years ago when we moved here. Seems the previous owners had a love affair for gray. It just wouldn't look right with white quarterround. So, I'm off this morning to purchase some high gloss white to paint baseboards. And while we are at it, that 100.00 sailboat my husband fell in love with really belongs up on a shelf away from a somewhat adult kid and a 2 year old. So, we're going to install a new black shelf for the boat. I'm also trying to convince Tony, that its not necessary to have wall to wall furniture. Let's just put in what works. Its a process. And I hope to be very happy by the end of the day. We shall see.

My Shopping Scores for the Day!!

I'm so excited about this. My cyber-friend, Angela, has been searching high and low for a Little Tykes Wheelbarrow. They are discontinued. Hard to find. Very rare. I have one in my possession in the trunk of my car as we read this!!!! I'm so glad I found it for her. I can't wait to ship it to her!!! YAY Logan!!! You get a wheelbarrow.

My other score was winter pj's on clearance for 2.00 at Walmart!!! What a bargain.

I love when I have good shopping days.

We've Made a Decision

We are going with Pergo Asian Bamboo. Here's a pic of a whole room of it, looks closer to what we saw in the store. In person the tone is a little deeper. Its going to look nice in this dark pit of a room. We affectionately call the room the Pit. I can't wait to empty it out. I can't wait to drag this nasty carpeting to the curb!!! I can't wait to dejunk the room and only put in furniture we need. I can't wait to get some bins and organize Rebecca's toys and neatly put them out of sight. I just can't wait!!!

Flooring . .. . .

We're going to go pick out flooring tonight. I though we already came to a decision. But, Tony is waffling between ceramic tile and laminate. I like both. Prefer laminate. I'm not sure which way we are going. But, if all goes well, we will have new flooring put in this weekend.

Is June almost over already? Dang, this summer is going fast.

Back to flooring. The downstairs that we are installing the flooring in is jam packed with stuff. So much stuff. I think that's why Tony is leaning towards laminate. Much faster to put in. Considering that we are going to have to spend a lot of time moving the stuff out of the room.

I can't wait. One less rug for a little white dog, who will remain nameless, pees on.

Turning up the Heat

Gosh, its summer in Florida now. We went to a birthday party yesterday afternoon. It was at the cattle ranch. Let me tell you, it was hot. Just in the low 90's, but it really took a lot out of me. Poor Rebecca's little face was red hot. I made her come in the shade and drink. It was a nice party though. Had a really good time.

For Father's Day, Rebecca and me (is that right, Elisa?) crafted a picture frame with shells we collected from our recent trip to Sebastian Inlet. I put in a picture from that trip. I think it turned out really nice. Not to mention, Tony got an new electronic toy. He spent all day yesterday playing with it.

Rebecca sang at church yesterday. I don't think she knew the first song. She just stood there sucking her thumb. The second song's music started, her thumb popped out and she put on her game face. She sang so loud and did all the hand and body motions. It was cute. She even took a bow after each song. That's my girl, the performer.

Picture? Did I take pictures? Not a one. I was sure a slacker this weekend.

Travelocity Sucks!!!

You were right Jeni, Travelocity sucks the big one. I now have 4 tickets, on two different airlines!!! And they want to charge me a service fee for their error!!! Dang Northwest for raising their ticket prices. I usually book directly with them.

*###)))@@@&**** - That's what I think about this!!

Spirit Airlines Suck

or maybe its Travelocity that sucks. Either way my flight was cancelled this morning. Still have my money hostage though.

Thanks ok, I rebooked with AirTran and I have my eticket in hand. So, lets hope all is good.

If this flight falls through, I'm staying home. But, I think all is good now.

High on Shopping

Macy's is having the best sale today. I wish I had more than an hour for lunch. The bargains were unbelievable. They had 50% off of all clearance prices. And it was better than that, because the prices were ringing up even lower than that. I got a 69.00 skirt for 8.00!!!! Cute pants that were marked down to 34.50 with half off should have been 17.25, I got for 11.00!!! People were taking clothes by the stack fulls. I wish I had more time. But, I'll be content with some new clothes that fit a newer body of mine. YAY for bargains!!!

I Have A Golden Ticket!!!

I've got my ticket for Michigan!!! I will be going in August. I hope we can hook up girls. Email me.

Would you believe, Northwest (who I usually fly), went up 70.00 a ticket overnight?!! I couldn't believe it. I'm flying Spirit Airlines. I just hope we don't have to stick our hands out the windows and flap.

I can't wait to see my cousin, big red barns and beautiful blue spruces. All rare commodities in Florida.

Random Thoughts

Wasp stings really hurt. I got stung last night. Just feels like a really huge bruise.

Why do people take employment in position when they really don't want to do the job they were hired for. Like bank tellers. They are supposed to be customer service for the bank. You make an inquiry, you expect someone to happily checking it out for you. Not an attitude of "Oh Geez, Why are you bothering me!!" Well, Wendy, I got your name.

How do I get sloppy joe out of the carpet in my car? I manage to tip over a crockpot of sloppy joe in my car last night and it spilled under the seat. I got the joe out, but I have a big red stain and my car smells like sloppy joe. Nauseating after awhile.

Talking of cars, I think we're finally breaking down and getting a car soon. We've been researching models and money options. I think we've come up with the answers. Just waiting of the perfect timing. I'm not sure which stars are supposed to line up to make it perfect. But, I'm sure my husband will let me know.

How can people be so judgemental about something or someone they have no first hand knowledge of? Please, if you are going to judge do some research.

I long for my summer break. My break from my commitments to organizations is July/August/September. I'm ready for those months. I tire of running on weeknights. Just a few more weeks.

I think I'm talking to Tony about preschool for next fall. Rebecca just loves Vacation Bible School. It doesn't have to be a full time thing. I think she would enjoy the time she would spend with other's her size.

Speaking of Rebecca, she misses her cousin terribly. Her imaginery friend has made many appearances since she went out of the country. 2 months is too long.

Come to my Garden

Just wanted to show you my orchids that are blooming. I'm so proud of them.

Our exciting discovery was during the extrication of our bouganvilla. We found wild grapes growing. It is so cool. Tony was like, "I think there is a weed growing through there." I replied, "Looks like grape leaves to me". Lo and behold, we have grapes.

Destination Michigan

Looks like Michigan is the winner!!! Not sure the exact dates yet. Still working on it. But, after much discussion, Tony and I felt my vacation would be enjoyed much more visiting my cousin than chasing boys in the youth group he advises at a hotel for a week.

So, Susan, heads up, I'll be an hour outside of Detroit or maybe I can talk my cousin to going to Mackinack for the day and we can hook up there. I'm not good with geography so I don't know how that is in relation to you.

It will def happen in July or August. Here's to Michigan in the summertime!!!

Weighing In

I know I haven't been consistently giving updates on my weigh-ins. I was stuck out on this plateau that didn't seem to budge for a month and a half. I was persistent though and stuck with the healthy eating. And I'm proud to say that the scale has started to move again. I'm down 26 lbs since January 2.

I cleaned my closet last night of all the oversized and mom-jeans. Gosh, after switching to lower waist and boot cut jeans, I can't believe I thought I really looked ok in the mom-jeans. I tried them on to be sure, but yuck. I got rid of them all, except for one pair of levi's that look relatively new. I might use them in a pinch. I hauled them into work today for the great jean give-away!!! They are all sizes and shapes (if you are looking for bigger jeans).

My next purchase is some new bras. My bras are looking sad. It was even blatently pointed out this weekend that I'm just not getting the support I need out of them. So here's to boobage and new bras. Tony likes boobage and I aim to please.

I guess when you lose weight and start feeling like you look good again, new clothes are in order. I'm waiting till the fall to get new jeans. I expect to be 18 lbs lighter than now. How's that for a goal. Then, I will invest in the jeans. For right now I will settle for supportive bras.

Beach Weekend Recap

Well, it turned out to be another nice adventure. Even though Tropical Storm Barry was pounding down on us Friday night. We made the most of it at the hotel karoke bar. As you can see from the Me and My Homer pictures we had a good time. I actually sang, which can be very, very scary.

Saturday, the wind was pounding the coast. So, we didn't actually make it out on the beach too much. The surf was furocious. We headed to the mall and saw Shrek 3. Totally funny movie. For dinner that evening we went to a Japenese Steak House. Rebecca even used chopsticks.

Overall it was a nice weekend. Wish the wind wasn't so bad. But, we made the most of it.

Yay for Friday!!

I so don't want to go this weekend. Its supposed to rain the whole time. My husband's company screwed up their payroll and we only got a half a check. Which really sucks, when I have billpayer all set up to take away all our money this morning. Tony and I aren't seeing eye to eye on how to pay for this little adventure. Its going to rain. I think I mentioned that already. I think I would rather stay home, save a bunch of money and take Rebecca to see Shrek 3. Don't think that's going to happen. So, I will hook up with my good buddy Bacardi and make the most of it. Everything is ok really, just a lot of hiccups at one time gets me down.

I'm sure I will have time this weekend as I sit in a hotel room while its pouring rain to give an update. So tune in later for the latest in this adventure.
